GOP convention in St. Paul, MN

Here I go again - blasting the GOP this time. Hold on to your panties.

So the Minneapolis StarTribune reported on June 23rd that the GOP was still seeking 6,000 additional volunteers to help out with the GOP convention held at the beginning of September. Wow. That's a lot to still have left outstanding. All the political pundits out there are saying the MN is 'up for grabs' or is a purple state for the presidential election in November. If this were REALLY true, would the GOP still be seeking 6,000 additional volunteers to pull their gig off?

Comments on the article included those who believe that you should put aside your party affiliation and do what is best for the state of MN. We will be on 'display' on a national level and we need to look good. Well, you know what? There is not a way in **** I will be helping the GOP in any way shape or form. St. Paul, MN will look as it always does and whether or not I volunteer the results will be the same. Gimmie a break.

So looking to the DMC convention in Denver, CO. Gee, they have 21,000 volunteers already signed up and ready to go. Huh.

Message to the GOP - hold the darn party in your solidified back yard and you won't have to hunt and beg for help. Oh, and stop trying to make a message out of the location of your gig. It won't work here.

We're back... ewwwwwww

Back from vacation in the Northland (aka the Arrowhead region of MN). Although most days it was a tad chilly - max high of 70 - mostly it was in the 60s and 1 day the HIGH was 48. Yes, 48 was the HIGH. But, as I told an acquaintance prior to our departure, we weren't at home and that is all that matters!

Kids had a wonderful time fishing, boating, swimming & drinking Coke (we don't drink pop/soda at home). Can't get better.

I got caught up on some movies. OK, had to come home for 2 days in the middle, so H and I went to the Indiana Jones movie. I am a fan of the series as a whole - even with the gruesome parts. However this last installation didn't really 'fit'. Granted the timeline jumped forward 20 years - but Indiana Jones and aliens? COME ON. The other part that really irked me was that the special effects were completely obvious. Granted they were in the previous 3 movies - but I didn't think it was possible that they'd be even MORE obvious. They were. Parts were cute, and funny. I was entertained and that's why I go to movies. I'll give it a C and we'll probably buy the DVD upon release to complete the collection.

I ended up finally getting to see "P.S. I Love You". LOVED LOVED LOVED that movie. It is probably a good thing I never got to travel to Ireland when I was in college. I would have completely fallen for the 1st Irish bloke to chat me up sweetly. I am such a sucker for accents. Guess that would make me an accent-slut, or accent-hussy, or accent-ho. Take your pick. Completely give this movie an A+, love a good romantic comedy.

I also got to see "27 Dresses". LOVED that one too. Whomever is the leading dude is in that one is just a cutie - and he also made me feel quite ancient. Not cool, but it is an occurrence that is happening more frequently, so I'd best be sucking it up like a good little camper. Jeez it's terrible getting old. Love the cabbie character, and I love that KH had to spill her heart publicly 1st. Anyway, I'd give this one an A.

Caught a few action movies as well. "Rush Hour 3" w/Chris Tucker & Jackie Chan. As with most Jackie Chan movies the outtakes are almost the best part. There is a WONDERFUL French cabbie character in this one who completely cracked me up. I also completely enjoyed oogling the Eiffel Tower for the last climactic scene of the film. Granted most of it was made on a set - but when the real deal was shown, I was in heaven. I'd say this was a B-. Had the cabbie not been in this, it would have been a C-.

4th Die Hard movie "Live Free or Die Hard" (I think). I have really liked the Die Hard series, and I was impressed that Bruce Willis could still pull something like this off - and rather well. Story line was interesting to think about and Justin Long was quite believable as a CN (Computer Nerd). This viewing was interrupted SEVERAL times by K's 1 & 2. At the cabin they sleep in the same room in bunks. K1 snores like a freight train and K2 takes a long time to get to sleep. This movie took 2 evenings to get through due to annoying (and YES, quite funny) interruptions by K's 1 & 2. Of course, the Ks don't know how funny we really think they were... gotta keep a straight face you know. This is why H had to do the 'dirty work'. I would have laughed my butt off going in there and scolding them - especially after the things they said. Where can I get training for this? I think I'm hopeless anyway... Die Hard 4 - I'll give it a B+. There were times it dragged...or it could have been the 2 night running, but it's still a B+.

"Frank And Jesse": according to my Mom, it was good. I couldn't even stand to watch the whole thing. F, all the way. There are few movies that I can't stand to even watch the entire thing. But I am, more and more, finding myself shutting movies off because I just CAN'T watch. This is a western movie about Frank & Jesse James starring Rob Lowe, Bill Paxton & Randy Travis. There are a few more faces in there I recognized, but couldn't put names to - and frankly, all I thought about while watching the little I did, was "Where have I seen that guy/lady before...." Sad, sad, sad. There's a 1/2 hour of my life I'll never get back. Like I said, an F.

Balto 3: Yep, had to get a new one for the Ks in there. I really wasn't paying much attention to this one. Really predictable, but for a kids movie straight to video, what do you expect? I liked Jean Smart's goose and I'd say the movie is a D.

And lastly "The Lake House" with Keanu Reeves and Sandra Bullock. I think this one was quite decent. I am only giving it a B+ because my practical mind can't get completely past the time issue deal. But I liked the story, plot and characters, and was completely entertained. H is too funny - towards the end 'if he dies, this movie TOTALLY SUCKS.' H likes a good romantic comedy as much as I do.

So home for a few weeks so K2 can have some swimming lessons, had to finally get the flower garden planted and get the Ks grounded a bit. (Grandparents love to spoil.) We'll be off again soon.

It's vacation time baby!

WAHOO! We're off tomorrow morning and I personally cannot wait. Although it is not a luxurious trip by any means, it's getting outta Dodge that counts. We're heading up to Lake Vermillion to the rents' cabin for some solitude. Yeah, solitude w/3 kiddos running around! It'll be great and they'll enjoy the change of scenery.

Now, a new popular made-up word that is being forever seen online is 'staycation'. Let me tell you - I do not know why, but this new 'word' is completely driving me bonkers! The concept is great and fine and I completely understand why people are staying home for their vacations and doing the local 'thing', but to make up words for it too? This one I just can't stomach. So media - KNOCK IT OFF!

We're off!

What a mess...

Can I just say what an absolute mess our political system is? I'd 1st better premise this conversation by stating the following:
1) I love the US and wouldn't want to live elsewhere
2) I am a political 'nerd' junkie (ergo the poli sci degrees)
3) I am a liberal democrat and proud of it
That said, really, what a mess. So the Dems this year, OK the DNC is who my 'beef' is with, have really tripped up. Seriously. A year ago an ape could have run under the Dem label and won. Now by postponing serious decisions they've split the party in 2 and given the GOP a kick start they don't deserve and are completely going to take advantage of.

So, you say, what have you DONE about this issue? Well, I did email the DNC about 2 mos. ago w/a solution to the MI/FL delegate issue and also a 'come to Jesus' talk. No response was granted, HOWEVER I was put on their email list. So now I receive DNC updates from various mucky-mucks, which IMHO amount to P and M-ing. Truly the DNC is not using the internet to its fullest potential. And opposed to taking responsibility for their inept decision making, they choose to blame the GOP for everything currently going wrong in the DNC. They are presently acting worse than my 3 year old. I can reason with my 3 year old, the DNC just doesn't respond, whines, pouts and puts you on the whiny email list. Amazing. Get into the current times people - step it up a notch technology wise. AND for Pete's sake TAKE SOME RESPONSIBILITY FOR YOUR ACTIONS for crying out loud.

Next, you say, well the Dems have finally made their FL/MI decisions - yeah, May 31st after the party was ripped to shreds. When you tell a child you are taking something away, do you give 1/2 of it back - EVER?? No. If you do, you lose all respect and your kids knows they can walk all over you. So when the DNC decided to remove FL/MI delegates, they should have recalculated the total number of delegates required and MOVED ON. Problem solved, and it would have been solved last fall w/o the mess.

What else? Well, gee. In these times, having primaries in JUNE is completely crazy. Come on. Bump it up a notch so the intended candidate can move on w/the 'real' race and firm up their support country-wide.

And last - all these things together have the DNC 'playing' around. Let me tell you - this is NOT the year to 'play' around. A Dem needs that office this election.

1 last note about my political beliefs. I am a person who believes that the Presidency doesn't belong w/1 party for longer than 8 years. Policy and agendas get too far in 1 direction after that. The key to politics is the same as in life - MODERATION.

There's my rant for the day - OK, it's been my rant for about 3 months!
