Other than anything with chocolate, blueberry pie is my favorite. I am salivating just thinking about the stuff. I made one last Thursday and still have some in the frig. And might I just say - it completely ROCKS.
Yesterday K1 and I went to a friend's house to take pictures of her ponies. That is much more difficult than it seems, let me tell you. I took a lot of butt shots. But the ones that turned out well, I think, are more plentiful then the icky ones. So job well done...and thank God for digital cameras - AND DELETE buttons!!!
Then we put together some music. Got to tap into my music persona for a bit to structure a 2 minute song for a 'liberty' class at the national level. The songs we combined were: Wipe Out, I Like To Move It Move It, Fergalicious, Hot Stuff, Jungle Boogie, Macho Man, You Ain't Seen Nothin' Yet, & We Will Rock You. And yes, they really all do go together! Can't wait to hear the final thing.
The funniest part of the day - K1 was playing around in the deserted restaurant while we were doing the music thing on a laptop. From the restaurant, you can see the bar portion of the facility. She comes back to the table "Mom, there are PIRATES in the bar!" WHAT? (a loud whisper) "Look Mom, PIRATES are in the bar!!!" Hummmmm - the pirates were bikers that had bandanas on their heads. TOO FUNNY! That'll stick with me awhile.
So Ks 1 & 2 went to go see "Kung Fu Panda" w/H today. After supper, K1 was practicing her very own personal version of karate in my living room. Knew that one was gonna happen. H said the movie was just OK, so I doubt that'll make the home DVD collection. But at least they had a good time. They followed that up w/the grocery shopping run. Always fun to have someone else take care of that one! Oh, K3 and I played and napped - Ahhhhhh.

It's official!
We (H & I only) are going on an honest to goodness vacation!
Seriously, I just made hotel reservations tonight. We're not talking just a cabin trek - although that'll be happening next week - but a ROAD TRIPPIN' vacation.
Everyone now "Ooooooo, Ahhhhhhh!"
I was sooooo itching to go on one of these, so I am WAY excited. A friend & neighbor from jr high & high school is getting married in Steamboat Springs, Colorado on our 11th wedding anniversary. So H and I decided that since we didn't do anything substantial to celebrate our 10 year anniversary (K3 was an infant), that we'd do something this year. So although it'll be quick, it'll be great ROCKY MOUNTAIN HIGH FUN!! YEAAAHHHH BABY

Interesting stuff
So to continue on the "Mom, you're old" front - last night K1 and I went to open swim at the local H.S. K1 was a bit too chicken the 1st time on the diving board (I was treading water to catch her). So she walked back to the shallow end of the pool. Well, lil miss thang realized her Mom wasn't quite what she expected as I swam back to the other end and more than beat her. The girl's jaw hit the floor and no words came out. I rendered the little motor mouth speechless - NOT a small feat these days...WAHOO! Score 1 for all the 'old' Moms out there!
Sunday K2 and I went to a local parade - as we were crossing the Mississippi River K2 asked what river that was. So I asked him to say it...and out came "Mister Sippy River". Pretty close! How cute is THAT?
Today we set up a complete Little People village in our rec room. The goal of Ks 1&2 while setting up was to take up as much of the room as possible. They completely succeeded. We're talking about an area that's at least 12 x 15. So K3 was playing with the farm portion. She is just starting to make her animal sounds. They don't necessarily match the animal she was playing with - the horse obviously doesn't say 'baa baa baa' - but gosh it was darn cute.
Made blueberry jam for the 1st time this evening. YUM. I completely left my brain elsewhere when starting. I dumped everything into the pot right away. Nice going, huh? So I called Grandma to see if she'd ever done that before and if so, did it turn out OK. Well, I told her what I did - and she laughed her butt off. Thanks a lot Grandma!! Oh well, at least I brought some laughter to her day. And yes, just so YOU know, the jam turned out JUST FINE - thankyouverymuch. And I get to eat most of it. And if you come to my house and be extra special nice to me, I just MAY let you try some....maybe. hehehe.

Mom, you're getting old
Isn't this what every Mom loves to hear? Nice. So I ask K1, very politely, "What makes you say I'm old?" Here are her responses & my arguments in return -
1. Your hands are getting wrinkley
Why yes, they sure are. And sweetie, yours will too.
2. Your eyes are lighter green
Since my eyes are technically hazel, they look different depending on what color shirt I am wearing.
3. Your eyebrows have gray in them
No, they don't. I check those.
(Now my HAIR is a different matter entirely, but I WASN'T going to tell her that!)
4. Your hair isn't as dark of brown
It's summer and we're outside a lot - so hair gets lighter. Your hair is more blonde now, right? (a nod)
5. Your cheeks are super soft
Well that's a good thing.
6. Your cheeks aren't as soft as Grandmas. Hers have fur.
hehehehehehehehe
(I REALLY couldn't help myself from giggling. Aw, come on - could YOU keep a straight face???)
7. The middle of the end of your nose is squishey.
WHAT???
(And more giggles - thus ending the conversation)
Now YOU know what to look for as signs of aging! Good luck.

A mixed bag
So it's been awhile, sue me. OK, maybe not. But maybe so - you won't get much anyway.
Vacation happened for a week again up in the 'northland'. Ahhhh. It was beautiful. Picture perfect a few days. Can't beat that. I can still picture it in my mind. I did overdo it helping Dad clean up the boat prior to putting it in the water for the season. They've had the pontoon out for a few months now - other one just sitting in the garage. The water was so high, he didn't want the lift put in the lake because it was holding the dock down! So to save the dock, the boat stayed in storage. Good call, I think. Anyway, it was in the high 80's the day we cleaned it up and I neglected to hydrate myself. So the next day I felt like complete crapola. You'd think I'd have learned by now. Jeez.
Movies seen since my last post. Well 1 was from the last vacation that I neglected to include "Charlie Wilson's War" w/Tom Hanks, Julia Roberts & Philip Seymour Hoffman. Forgive me if I've misspelled poor Phil's name. That has no impact on his acting - he is top notch. Anywho, that was a good movie. I had zero expectations going in and thoroughly enjoyed it. I did think that Julia's character was too old for her to play... I dunno, just didn't fit for me. Topic was extremely interesting for me, the complete political nerd. I'll give it an A-.
Next - Fool's Gold w/Kate Hudson & Matthew McC. Not even going to try to spell that Mc-hunk's name. Know for certain it'd be wrong. Liked the movie. Had it been released prior to the National Treasure films, it'd have been a huge hit. I loved the actor's pairing in "How To Lose A Guy In 10 Days" - that is still one of my all time faves. But this one was just a bit off. I did enjoy Donald Sutherland though. I'd give this a C.
Last - Pirates Of The Carribbean, At World's End. The Pirates trilogy has interested me, but I've not been a fanatic. I've only seen each one once, and you know, I think that's enough for me. I love the stories, love the actors, but really dislike all the gruesome costumes and creatures a la Davey Jones. Just not my thing, I guess. The ending did surprise me, I'm a complete romantic so a bit of disappointment followed. But Disney did leave the door open to run a 4th one in the future, which I really think they'd be stupid NOT to since the first 3 did so completely well.
So stopping en route to vacation at a friend's home was way cool. LOVE LOVE LOVE seeing the horseys she talks about non-stop in person opposed to photos. And my kids had a great time petting noses and feeding treats. For the next hour drive time to the cabin was filled with questions about horses and the what's and why's and the most important "Why can't we RIDE one, Mom???". Well, these are American Shetland Ponies, and they aren't broke to ride. Of course to Ks 1 & 2 this means absolutely NOTHING. So the LONG LONG LONG explanation has to occur. And jeez if my voice wasn't about to go out before the questions finally stopped. Whew! But always fun, and at least they weren't bickering "She's LOOKING at me!" "He's kicking my seat!" Because God knows, there's only so much of that a person can handle.
So what is the deal w/the political candidates changing stances on policies? Both Obama & McCain are doing this. And although the GOP has no love from me - WHY is McCain doing this? He's the best hope for a GOP pres. this year and it is because of the type of Senator he IS - prior to his presidential campaign, that he HAD the best hope of winning. On This Week, 2 weeks ago, MN Governor Tim Pawlenty was in McCain's corner stating that the big concern is "When has Obama bucked the Democrats to get anything done?". Well Mr. Pawlenty, the question now relates to McCain. He did buck his party quite frequently and authored a few bills then laws in the process. HOWEVER, NOW McCain is campaigning AGAINST his own bills/laws! Tell me, what sense does THAT make?
For both candidates they need to get that center, independent vote. A strong GOP or strong DEM would rather keel over and die than vote for the other party. Really, they may be pissed, but they won't vote for the 'other guy' once they get in that booth. So why why why why why is McCain buckling to the GOP NOW of all times??? I'd say Obama needs to work a bit more to get those middle voters, McCain didn't - until now. He's moving the wrong way. Who is his adviser? Whomever it is - s/he should be fired.
